This
Sunday we’re on the road!
The Local Sports Edge has a road
game this weekend as we take the show on the road. Mickey and I will
be at PaeTec Park
in Rochester
doing the show. We will have Coach Wayne Carroll via phone and Gene
Mastin, Hornell
High School football
coach, via phone from the coach's office in the locker room at
PaeTec. Coach Brian Wickham of Marcus
Whitman will also join us via phone. We will chat with Derreck
Balinsky from the Hornell Evening Tribune to talk about the Hornell/Geneva
game and the Bath/Whitman game, Chris Metcalf from the Livingston County
News to talk the Bath/Whitman and Hornell/Geneva game and the C and D semi
games too. Also Dan Enright from the Courier Journal will stop up
into the press box.
We will talk about the games and
figure out...is this Rams team as good as the 01,02, and '03 teams that
Bath had? We will also discuss: is David Zapata a big time back
who comes up in big time games or does he feed off of the weak teams?
Does he shine on the big stage? We will gov over his numbers to
decide.
We will be taking your predictions
on the two semi games that day as well. Be sure to tune in on WVIN
98.3 or listen live to the show and the Rams game at www.localsportsedge.com!

Mr. Peterson coached wrestling and taught American History for 31 years in
Avoca and he will be honored with a Lifetime Service Award. We look forward

Get to know your favorite SEC team!
The new football season has begun, so get to know your favorite SEC team!
Here is the traditional collegiate football quiz to begin the season. Even
though you may know most of the answers, it is still fun to reminisce the
halcyon days of yore.
(1) What does the average Alabama
player get on his SATs?
.........Drool.
(2) What do you get when you put thirty-two Arkansas cheerleaders in one room?
.........A full set of teeth.
(3) How do you get a South Carolina
cheerleader into your dorm room?
.........Grease her hips and push.
(4) How do you get a Georgia
graduate off your porch?
.........Pay him for the pizza.
(5) How do you know if a Mississippi
State football player
has a
girlfriend?
........There is tobacco spit on both sides of his pickup .
(6) Why is the Kentucky
football team like a possum?
.........Because they play dead at home and get killed on the road.
(7) What are the longest three years of an Auburn
football player's life?
.........His freshman year.
(8) How many Florida Freshmen does it take to change a light bulb?
.........None -- that's a sophomore course.
(9) Where was O. J. headed in the white Bronco?
........Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He knew that the police would
never look at LSU for a Heisman Trophy winner.
AND FINALLY (drum roll and cymbal crash.....)
(10) Why did Texas
choose orange as their team color?
.........You can wear it to the game on Saturday, hunting on Sunday, and
picking up trash along the highways the rest of the week.

August 23, 2007 - Thursday
What’s upcoming???
I want to start off with a thank you...thanks to Coach Mike Allen for filling
in for me over my much-needed vacation! I appreciate his help and i hope
everyone enjoyed the show. Now I'm back and rejuvenated, ready for High
School Football to start.
This Sunday, Bath Haverling head football coach Wayne Carroll pulls up a
stool in the first installment of "The Coaches Corner" on The
Sports Edge. Coach Carroll will join us every Sunday at 11 a.m. to talk about
that week's football game and the game coming up the next week. He will take
your phone calls as well. Chris Metcalf, the Sports Editor of the Livingston
County News will be on to handicap the LCAA for this year. What does he think
of Bath? Who
will win the Bath
vs. Hornell game? Who will win the Cal-Mum vs. LeRoy game? What did he think
of the Eddie Meath game? Who would he pick - McCloud or Zapata? Just a few of
the things we'll cover with Metcalf.
Then joining the melee will be Brian Hillabush, or better known to his
adoring fans as Hilly. He will give respect to the Genesee Region and their teams.
I wonder who will back their league more - Metcalf or Hilly? Collin Wright
will come on to talk about his experience at The Corning Leader this summer
and some of the work he did there. We will then have the Godfather of local
sports in Section IV, Bob Michaels, from WELM AM 1410 in Elmira on to talk about Corning East. Will
they repeat again? What is Bob's take on the loss of their long time coach?
What does he expect from the Corning and Elmira teams this year?
Also, as usual, we will have the Coach Mike Allen on.
It's sure to be a busy hour...I'm tired from just typing about it! Don't miss
a minute of this week's Local Sports Edge!!!
And coming soon, a new contest for you high school, college and NFL fans!!!
A chance to play Beat the Board!
We will give you a high school game to pick, a college game to pick, and then
we will let you pick any three pro games. If your record is better than the
BOARD you will win the Italian Villa gift certificate.
The Local Sports Edge Board will consist of Joel Oriend, Mickey the Sports
Edge Sports Princess, Chris Metcalf LCN Sports Editor, Coach Mike Allen, and
Bill Collmer.
Each of us will make five picks every week but one of our picks will be our
board pick...the one we are most confident in. Again, if you pick more games
correct than our Board, you win the Italian Villa gift certificate!
Get ready because this new contest starts on Sept 9th!

Harlem Wizards
Wrap-Up...and News About Going "Over the Edge"
It was a
fun show this week from the Haverling Athletic Complex. Thanks to the
school for the great accommodations as always! We also appreciate
Eric "Broadway" Jones from the Wizards spending a few minutes
with us before the game. Congratulations to Mack Mullen of Canisteo
for challenging the Coach Mike Allen and winning! He has a $20 gift
certificate for the Italian Villa on its way.
We want to
extend our congratulations to the Campbell-Savona Panthers who made it to Glans Falls for the second straight
year. You sure make us proud!
The Harlem
Wizards game was fun and we will have some pictures up within the next
couple days in case you missed it. We only lost 92 to 85, but it was
definitely the most lopsided seven point victory you will ever see!
Mickey and I both scored, though, so we were happy with that!
In our
Harlem Wizards "Guess the Score" Contest, people had to guess how
many points the Rowdy Rams would score. Connie Wright was closest
with her guess of 60 points. Michelle Prinz also won by guessing that
we would lose by 5 points to the Wizards. Both Connie and Michelle
won a three foot sub from Subway on West Morris Street in Bath! Congrats!
Now looking
ahead...this week we will have former MLB closer for the Altanta Braves,
John Rocker on to talk about his infamous comments to Sports Illustrated
about the 7 train, allegations about steroids, and what he is doing these
days. You'll also want to tune in as we pull out an old call we made
to Ted Turner around the time John Rocker was released by the Braves.
Jim Fowler
will be in studio to announce the next big sporting event coming to the
area and will let us know what our role will be! Other guests will be
added as the week goes on.
ALSO WE GO OVER THE EDGE THIS WEEK...
and then a second hour just on the internet!!!
We will do a speicial contest just for the Internet listeners
in the second hour, so you will want to listen online to
win! The prize is something everybody can use, not just a prize
for locals! Be sure to listen on www.localsportsedge.com for details!!

The Big Game is Coming Up!
Thanks to
this week's guests for sharing some time with us on The Local Sports
Edge! We appreciate Anthony Falco giving us some time on the morning after
a big Sabres game. We also wish him a great trip to Glens Falls as he heads out to referee on
Championship weekend!
It was a
pleasure to have Will Cornett in studio after their big win over Maple Grove on
Saturday. Of course, we wish Will and the rest of the Campbell-Savona
Panthers good luck as they also are heading to Glens Falls to defend their title as NYS
Class C Champs! We expect to hear from the Panthers' camp this Sunday
as well.
When you
tuned in, you heard the debut of the Southern Tier's newest contest.
It was the "Challenge the Coach Mike Allen Contest" and he
started it off with a tough question. Congratulations to Bob Smith
who won a $20 gift certificate to the Italian Villa in Hornell. Bob
knew that Lou Gehrig's #4 was the first number to be retired in
professional sports. Listen in for your chance to challenge the coach
and win!
We also
started our NCAA March Madness contest. You can still get in on it
and win a pizza and wing party for 10 from Ponderosa for the championship
game! All you have to do is e-mail us at soundoff@localsportsedge.com and tell us your
name and phone number. We will randomly draw a team for you and
you'll be in the running. The listeners with the last two teams
standing in the tournament will win the pizza parties! We
started with 64 slots, so be sure to get your entry in soon!
This Sunday
is the big game day for us as the Harlem Wizards come into the Haverling
Athletic Complex to take on the Rowdy Rams! Before the game, we'll be
broadcasting live from the sports complex, so be sure to tune in. Get
your tickets for the game so you don't miss out on all of my stunning
athletic ability! We can't wait to show the Wizards just how rowdy we
can get! We hope to see you there!

What a busy show that was!
Yesterday's
show was another great one! It was nice to talk to some members of
the Haverling Lacrosse team about the game coming up on the 18th, as well
as their upcoming season. Thanks to Coach Ken DiDomineck and players
John Pryn and Mackenzie Durham! We're getting ready for the Rowdy
Rams vs. the Harlem Wizards on March 18th. Don't forget to get your
tickets early to be a part of a great event!
Thanks to
Jamie Burke for spending some time on the radio with us. She
definitely comes from a family of coaches and the wisdom of her father
shows through in her philosophies and successes.
We also
want to thank Collin Wright and Bruce Mourhess for stopping in studio to
talk catch up with us during our Where Are They Now? show. Our
condolences go out to Collin on Duke's loss to North Carolina. And thank you,
Bruce, for not punching me for calling his brother Seth instead of
Sean! Sorry!
Our
sectional contest winner was Courtney Sutrick, who had the Campbell-Savona
Panthers on the boys' side of sectionals. Be sure to listen this
Sunday and next week when we will have a similar contest for the NCAA
tourney.
We hope to
have someone from the Harlem Wizards on the show this week to talk about
the game on the 18th. We'll also be talking about Campbell-Savona
hoops, possibly with some NCAA hoops! It's also time to start talking
about the MLB, so be sure to tune in on Sunday!
Don't
forget to keep checking out www.localsportsedge.com, where you can hear
Wednesday's C-S game live from Geneseo. If you missed Friday night's
game, you can find it here too!

"Where Are They Now" Show planned for March 4th
This week's
show is now in the books...and of course online at www.localsportsedge.com. If you
missed it, you can now listen to all our past shows on our site!
Thanks to
Bill Collmer for updating us on this week's Sectional action. By next
week's show, we'll be able to tell you the champs and we'll announce the
winner of our sectional contest, so be sure to tune in at 11!
We
certainly enjoyed having a few minutes of Coach Bob Knight's time.
One thing that can not be disputed is that he is a passionate man.
Whether you hate him or you love him (like Truck Driver Tim who asked Coach
a question on the air), his 887 wins represent that passion for basketball.
When you
tune in next Sunday, you'll hear a great line up of local athletes who
played in high school in the area and have gone on to the next
chapter. We will feature:
Former
Prattsburgh Viking and 3-sport award-winning athlete Jamie Burke.
Jamie is now at Keuka
College, where she is
the head coach of the womens' softball and soccer teams. We will talk
with Jamie about her playing days as well as her coaching experiences.
Former
Hornell Red Raider and current RIT Tiger Scott Young will be joining us
too. Scott was an outstanding athlete at Hornell, playing basketball
and football. He is now a freshman at RIT and he'll fill us in on how
his season is going!
Campbell-Savona
graduates Collin Wright, Jon VanSkiver, and Bruce Mourhess will also join
us. All three have gone on to Houghton College,
where Jon and Bruce both play on the Highlanders' basketball team and
Collin is an assistant coach.
Be sure to
tune in because you never know what other guests might stop in on The Local
Sports Edge!
Also, check
the myspace calendar
throughout the week to keep updated on what Sectional games we will be
broadcasting on WVIN 98.3!

Wrap-up from February 18th and what's coming up!
Many thanks
for another great show! We enjoyed sharing the studio with Bath
Haverling Wrestling Coach Jim Fowler and several of his wrestlers! I
still think I could take those boys on, but as I said, I didn't want to
break any of our furniture in the studio. Who knew that I didn't
invent a new move with the "Well Pumper"?! Best wishes to
the guys as they head to Albany
for States!
It was also
great to get up to speed with our Section V
"Bracketologists." Thanks to Jamie McCormick and Bill
Collmer for taking the time to fill us in. We look forward to hearing
more from them as we make our way through sectional play. Don't
forget, you can check out another great girls' match-up on Thursday,
February 22nd on WVIN. We'll bring you the second round game as
Hammondsport takes on C.G. Finney at home at 7:00 pm.
Good luck
to everyone who got in on our sectional play contest. We'll see which
team takes home the top honors and who wins the $25 gift card!
Next week,
we plan to catch up with Bill Collmer again and I have a big interview
planned with Coach Bob Knight! As always, we welcome your comments
through e-mail at soundoff@localsportsedge.com
or our MySpace page!
See you at

participation in the derby, I have posted the picture of my trophy!

Coming up this week we'll have another action-packed show.

some of his wrestlers. We'll chat with Coach and his team as they

The Debut Show...and what's to come!
Wow, what a
great first show! The time just flew by and we had a blast
being on the air together again! Sincere thanks go out to Coach Jim Burke
for coming into the studio to be with us. It is always a pleasure to
talk with Coach about his Prattsburgh Vikings and we look forward to
chatting with him again soon. Chrs Metcalf is always another great
guest and I want to thank him for spending a few minutes with us as
well! Lastly, we talked to Mike Ditka, who was great to have on,
especially on Super Bowl Sunday! Thanks also to the callers who
made it a great debut, and congratulations to Richard Putnam, who picked up
the Super Bowl Greatest Moments DVD!
This
week we have another great lineup of guests. Tune in on Sunday at
11:00 to hear Mike Wright, the Steuben
County basketball
coordinator and Section V Basketball Representative. We'll be
talking to him about local basketball action, as things are heating up with
the County Tournament and Sectionals just
around the corner! We will also be sure to catch up with Mark Kelso,
former player and current radio commentator for the Buffalo Bills.
Don't forget, check out this blog every week to see what's coming up on The
Local Sports Edge! And be sure to tune in every Sunday from 11 to
noon on V98.3!
Be good everybody
~Joel
